The Sydney Roosters SG Ball side finished a successful season with a 36-14 loss to the Townsville Stingers in the Under-18 National Championships.

After clinching the Mal Meninga Cup as Queensland champions a fortnight ago, the Stingers were dominant from the start, scoring seven tries to three.

Townsville led 18-0 after crossing for the game’s first four tries and only conceded right on half time when Roosters winger Johnny Tuivasa-Scheck found his way over following a kick on the final tackle of the half.

The young Roosters fought bravely in the second half but couldn’t catch up to a solid Stingers team.

Coach Tony Barnes said he was proud of the team’s efforts all season.

“We didn’t get the result we wanted today but the boys tried hard all season and were rewarded with the SG Ball title which is something they all deserved.”
