I've Learned From That | Jake Friend (c)

Jake Friend Re-Signs

Captain Jake Friend caught up with RoostersTV to discuss the pre-season so far, while also making mention of why he stays fit during the off-season.

Friend didn't get a chance to get away over the break, instead he spent his time moving house and keeping his body in good shape so he would be ahead of the curve heading into pre-season.

When asked about the impressive shape he was in upon his return to training, the Club Captain wasn't shy about admitting why he likes to take care of himself over the off-season.

"I didn’t get away this year, so I ended up doing a little bit (of work)," he said about the shape he was in.

I came back one year a bit heavier than I should have and it was too hard to get rid of it.

In his first week back at training, Friend was a top performer in the dreaded YoYo test, showing his willingness to put in the hard yards like any good Captain would.

"I came back one year a bit heavier than I should have and it was too hard to get rid of it.

"I’ve learned from that and just try to tick it over now, that way it’s not so hard when you first come back."

There have been a number of changes made to this year's roster, but Friend insists that it has no effect on how hard the boys are working on the training paddock.

What makes this a good pre-season according to the Captain is nothing more than a bit of balance.

"We’ve done some pretty tough stuff, but there’s been plenty of fun along the way.

"It’s been a really good mix this pre-Christmas training."
