Roosters Juniors v St Helens Academy

On Wednesday the 23rd of October at St Marys Rugby League field, the Sydney Roosters put together an Under 18s team to play against a travelling St Helens Academy team.

Players selected for the Sydney Roosters were from our Central Coast and Eastern Suburbs pathways programs.

The game was tight early on with a great contest on display from both teams.

St Helens capitalised first and scored 12 minutes into the game through Shay Martyn in the left corner.

The Roosters hit back four minutes later with a well executed backline play that was finished by Jordan Swann.

The Tricolours would go on to score the following two tries.

First through a close range effort from Brae Verhayen, then some individual brilliance from winger Michael Whitton.

Martyn barged over again for St Helens just shy of half time to make it 12-8 in favour of the young Roosters.

It was back and forth early in the second half until the Roosters gained momentum and scored through Faima Betham, only for St Helens to hit back with back-to-back tries from Kian Naylor and halfback Lewis Dodd.

With 16-16 and only five minutes to spare, playmaker Ronald Volkman took control and lead the Roosters up field and Tommy Anderson scored to win the game for the Roosters.

Player of the match was star playmaker Ronald Volkman, who was instrumental and had a role to play in all tries scored in the match.

This game has been in the making for over a year now and is a great opportunity for our players to play against a side with different attributes and skill.

The Junior Representative program is only a few days away with training starting in a week’s time.
