Five of the Best: Magic Round Moments

The third edition of the NRL's Magic Round is upon us and what better way to preview one of the biggest weekends of the season than to look back on some of the best moments from our last two outings?

Classy Cut Out Opens Scoring

With the Roosters on their quest for back-to-back Premierships, few could have predicted they would face the Canberra Raiders in the 2019 Grand Final - and fans got a sneak preview in Magic Round of that very season.

Tedesco Puts Ikuvalu in With a Scintillating Cut Out

The classy Red, White and Blue outfit began proceedings in scintillating fashion against their opponents just five minutes into the contest as the ball swung to the right.

Attacking the line, halfback Cooper Cronk connected with James Tedesco, who launched a breathtaking cut out pass to winger Matt Ikuvalu who finished off with an acrobatic move to open the Roosters' account.

Spine Combine For a Gentleman's Try

Not two minutes later, Trent Robinson's men were back at it and extended their lead, this time through a well-orchestrated maneuver through the middle of the field.

Spine Combine for a Gentleman's Try

Darting from dummy half, deputy hooker Victor Radley caught the defence napping before putting Tedesco through the line with a well-timed pass as the fleet-footed fullback streaked downfield.

With support around him, Tedesco went inside to Cronk, who completed the 50-metre team effort under the posts - and made sure to thank his teammates with a gentleman's handshake to boot.

Sitili Streams Through to Put Tedesco Over

With a handy eighteen-point lead at the break, the Red, White and Blue were eager to keep their point-scoring streak hot, and rolled through just minutes into the second stanza.

Magic Moment: Sitili Steams Through and Sends Tedesco Over to Score

Front rower Siosiua Taukeiaho put on his halfbacks' cap and cleverly drew in the defence to put Sitili Tupouniua in clear space, with the young back rower steaming downfield with his eyes set on the line.

Tupouniua drew in the fullback with 20 metres to go to the line, and put Tedesco over for a well-deserved try in emphatic fashion as the Tricolours extended their lead which ultimately sealed the result.

Walker and Radley Turn Cowboys Inside Out

With Magic Round returning after a year's absence in 2021, the Roosters were quick to dazzle the fans at Suncorp Stadium, and got to a fast start against the Cowboys with a try just five minutes in.

But Easts weren't content with just four points, and Sam Walker combined with Victor Radley to produce one of the great four-pointers of the weekend, with the teenage halfback sending the ball inside to a steaming Radley.

The ball-playing lock then collided with the fullback, but had enough strength to free his arm, with Walker backing up in support to finish off a clever move and slide down next to the posts.

Tedesco's Scintillating Solo Effort Seals Result

In a scrappy yet entertaining affair at Suncorp Stadium, it was Roosters Captain James Tedesco leading the charge as his side overcame the Cowboys at Suncorp Stadium.

Despite taking a handy lead, the momentum quickly shifted with a sin-bin allowing the Cowboys to strike back in quick succession and come within two points to set up a grandstand finish.

But Tedesco stood up with half an hour remaining, bursting through to put Angus Crichton over for his second try before playing a hand in the match-sealing try which saw Daniel Tupou bag his own brace.
