Sydney Roosters Business Club Gets a Straight Talk With Mark Bouris & Peter V’landys

In what was a series-first for the Straight Talk podcast, host Mark Bouris sat down with Racing NSW CEO and Australian Rugby League Commission Chairman, Peter V’landys, for an in-depth one-on-one interview in front of a live audience.

Members of the Sydney Roosters Business Club gathered on the morning of June 7 at Merivale’s Ivy Sunroom to network over coffee and breakfast before entering the private theatre for the live podcast recording.

The audience was treated to an exclusive insight into the life that has shaped V’landys’ personal and professional philosophies.

Bouris’ unique style of interviewing allowed V’landys to divulge stories from his family's settlement in Australia from the Greek island of Kythira to the modern-day challenges presented by the COVID pandemic.

Business Club member and National Sales Manager of Opal Australian Paper, Cheryl Hill, was full of praise for the unique event.

“It was a privilege to be in the live audience to listen to Mark and Peter talk through some incredible stories,” Hill said.

“The event was so professionally executed and I can’t wait to see what is next from the Business Club."

General Manager of Daily Press, George Geha, said it was V’landy’s personal philosophies - transcending both his private and public life - that resonated with him most.

“Peter’s humility, authenticity, honesty and self-belief were what I could personally relate to and what has stuck with me since the recording,” Geha said.

“It was captivating to hear how his early experiences, growing up in an ethnic family in the suburbs of Sydney, have shaped the man we now see as one of Australia’s great administrators.

"It was truly inspiring.”
