Women's Report: Unrelenting Roosters Claim Huge Win

Central Coast Roosters recorded an incredible Round 6 victory, crushing a young St George side 50-0 at the NSWRL Centre of Excellence on Monday evening.

The win sees John Strange’s team leap into second position on the Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership ladder, with five rounds left of the regular season.

Fullback Shannon Rose got the Roosters off to a perfect start, raiding the right edge twice to bag tries in the opening five minutes.

Keilee Joseph and Joeli Morris combined to add another four points to the board, with the lock offloading to her hooker who cut through the scattered defensive line to score in the 17th minute. Kelleher nailed the conversion to make the score 14-0.

A clever short ball from Tarryn Aiken put second-rower Olivia Kernick over to give the Roosters a comfortable lead on the verge of half-time, with Kelleher adding the extras to give Central Coast a 20-point lead on the siren.

Carrying the momentum into the second half, Rose bagged her third try of the day through another right-side play, diving through a gap in the line to ground the ball.

Stand-in captain Kelleher generated another try-scoring opportunity in the 47th minute, this time for centre Kelsey Clark who stepped inside and slipped through the grasp of St George’s defence to crash over the line.

Kelleher’s fancy footwork split the line just four minutes later, with the halfback snagging a try of her own behind the posts.

The 23-year-old gifted Kiara Sullivan a 54th minute try through a rainbow ball that sat perfectly in the hands of the unmarked left-edge winger. Kelleher converted her own mastery to make the difference 40.

In a play that mirrored her first try, Kelleher crossed again three minutes later. The playmaker kicked the conversion to make her personal point tally 18.

Central Coast capped off their victory through Tarryn Aiken, who dived over the line in the 61st minute to bring the Roosters to a half-century on the scoreboard.

The Roosters will now turn their sights to Round 7, where they’ll take on the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Redfern Oval on Saturday March 18.
