Sydney Roosters Launch Elite Female Tricolours Academy

The Sydney Roosters have launched their inaugural Elite Female Tricolours Academy, a program designed to develop 20 of the best emerging female athletes aged 16-18 in the NRLW pathway.

With a heavy focus on growth both on and off the field, members of the program will be assessed regularly in three key frameworks – player development, athletic development and individual development.

Player Development Technical attack principles, technical defence principles, tactical positional game sense principles.
Athletic Development Strength and power, field conditioning and medical preparation.
Individual Development Nutrition, mental wellbeing and education/work as well as planning for life, growth and development.

One night a week, the Tricolours Academy train alongside the Roosters’ NRLW Squad, learning from some of the best athletes in the women’s game. The group will also experience an NRLW match-day, where they will analyse the game and see how elite players prepare for a match.

In September, the Academy squad will also attend a camp, which will focus on mental resilience and growth as an athlete, giving participants a glimpse at how the Roosters NRLW team prepare during pre-season.

Head of Pathways and Coach Blake Cavallaro explains that the Tricolours Academy provides a unique opportunity for emerging female stars to be exposed to the elite environment.

“We’ve recognised how important it is to give young females exposure to what it means to be an NRLW player, and the work needed to become a professional athlete,” he said.

“The girls in the Tricolours Academy have been blown away learning about how the NRLW team train.

“They’ve adapted to the elite environment really well and are building on the frameworks every session.

“I’m looking forward to seeing their growth as athletes and as people throughout the season."
