Seniors Report Round 1: Roosters Pipped by Panthers

It was a promising start for the Sydney Roosters Seniors in their opening round of the season, with both sides narrowly defeated against the Penrith Panthers away from home.

The Sydney Roosters Jersey Flegg side started their season with a narrow defeat to the Penrith Panthers at St Marys League Stadium, in a low-scoring affair that saw just four tries scored.

Penrith began proceedings with a try in the eighth minute and followed up with a second in the 23rd for a 10-nil lead, with the young Roosters blowing out the cobwebs. 

Both sides failed to trouble the scoresheet for a majority of the second stanza, with the Panthers solidifying their victory with just under ten minutes remaining, as lock Hayden Barton touched down in the dying stages to put his side on the board. 

The Sydney Roosters' Jersey Flegg side will face the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles at 4 Pines Park this Sunday afternoon prior to the NRL match.

NSW Cup | Points Aplenty But Roosters Pipped 

Sydney Roosters def 22 by Penrith Panthers 28 

The Sydney Roosters' NSW Cup side were pipped by the Penrith Panthers in a high-scoring encounter at St Marys Leagues Stadium, 28-22. 

Despite the inclusion of NRL players Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Egan Butcher and Connor Watson, the Tricolours conceded early before young hooker Benaiah Ioelu touched down, trailing 12-6 at the break.

The combatants went tit for tat in the second 40, with Ioelu bagging his second while fellow youngster Ethan King crossed for a double of his own, however it wasn't enough for the Red, White and Blue, who were downed by six points in the end. 

The Sydney Roosters NSW Cup side will face the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles at 4 Pines Park prior to the NRL match on Sunday afternoon.
