Seniors Report Round 2: Cup Post First Win

The Sydney Roosters NSW Cup side claimed a big scalp in their first victory of 2024, while the Jersey Flegg Cup side fell short in their almighty comeback.

Jersey Flegg Cup | Roosters Comeback Falls Short

Sydney Roosters 10 def by Manly Warringah Sea Eagles 14

The Sydney Roosters' Jersey Flegg Cup side fell agonisingly short against the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles at 4 Pines Park on Sunday afternoon, with a second half comeback just falling short in a 14-10 defeat.

Manly began proceedings in quick fashion, scoring twice in the first sixteen minutes for a 12-nil lead, which extended to the break despite the Tricolours losing a man to the sin-bin midway through the first half.

But the Roosters looked to rally in the second stanza, with winger Oshay Tyerman bagging a try just minutes on resumption, while Daniel Readon added plenty of impact from the interchange with a try of his own to close the deficit to just two.

Unfortunately, the Roosters' late surge was squandered in the final minute of play, with a Sea Eagles penalty goal extending the difference to four and robbing the side of any opportunity to claim an unlikely victory.

The Sydney Roosters will face rivals South Sydney in Round 3 of the Jersey Flegg Cup at Wentworth Park in search of their first victory of the season.

NSW Cup | Hat-Trick for Hugo as Roosters Down Sea Eagles

Sydney Roosters 34 def Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles 12

A hat-trick to young halfback Hugo Savala helped the Sydney Roosters NSW Cup side to their first win of the 2024 season in a convincing 34-12 win over the Blacktown Workers Sea Eagles at 4 Pines Park.

It took just one minute for Savala to touch down for the Red, White and Blue, and just a tick over ten more to bag his second as the Roosters' no.7 weaved his magic in the early stages of the match.

Halves partner and captain Zach Dockar-Clay added to the scoreline just before the break, with the Roosters taking in a handy 16-nil lead, and while Blacktown hit back on resumption, the no.6 bagged a second soon after to put the Tricolours back in control.

NSW Cup Round 2 Highlights: Roosters vs Sea Eagles

The Sea Eagles touched down once more to add a bit of spice to the end of the match, but a four-pointer to fullback Callum Gromek all but sealed the result, while Savala savoured a performance to remember with his third of the day in the dying stages.

The Sydney Roosters NSW Cup side will face the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Allianz Stadium this Friday night in the curtain raiser to the NRL match between the competition's fiercest and oldest rivals.
