The Roosters junior representative sides had a mixed day on Saturday, with four wins and three losses, highlighted by a record win by our Lisa Fiaola Cup team.
S.G. Ball Cup (Men’s Under 19s)
The Sydney Roosters S.G. Ball team have suffered a second successive agonising loss, going down 38-32 to Newcastle in Newcastle, after leading 32-20, with 22 minutes remaining. The Roosters ran in six tries in the first 55 minutes but were unable to hold off a Newcastle comeback once the Knights started to dominate possession and field position.
Star halfback Toby Rodwell had some nice moments in the game, highlighted by a first half try double, whilst interchange forwards Itulu Seve and James Finegan gave the Roosters great impetus when they came onto the field.
The loss has left the Roosters precariously placed in ninth spot on the competition table, and can now likely only afford one more loss from their remaining four matches to qualify for the finals.
Next Saturday the Roosters play the Sharks (three wins, two losses) at Cronulla.
Harold Matthews Cup (Men’s Under 17s)
The Sydney Roosters Harold Matthews Cup team has narrowly lost its Round 5 clash with Newcastle at Wentworth Park to Newcastle. The 24-20 loss means that the Roosters may need to win all their remaining matches to make this season’s finals series. It was a frustrating day for the Roosters who matched the Knights for tries scored but failed to nail the key moments in the game after falling behind 24-6 early in the second half.
Five eighth Charlie Webb had another strong game whilst prop Charlston Te Rore made it five tries in four games this season, with his second double of 2025
The Roosters play the Sharks (three wins, one loss) next Saturday at Cronulla in a must win game for the Club.
The Central Coast Harold Matthews Cup team have won their third successive match of 2025 to move into third place on the competition ladder. The Roosters have comfortably defeated Balmain 38-6 at Woy Woy, scoring seven tries to one.
Halfback and captain Carter Mareko and hooker Jack Dean-Potaka were again very creative for the home side, who now have the opportunity to secure a Top Two spot in the coming weeks if they continue their fine form.
Next week the Roosters play the Bulldogs (one win, three losses) at Woy Woy.
Tarsha Gale Cup (Women’s Under 19s)
The Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy team have continued their winning form, with a comprehensive 46-6 victory over South Sydney.
The Roosters have scored 8 tries to one, with hooker Mahlie Cashin scoring three tries and powerful right centre Tyra Ekipata scoring a double. The Roosters forwards, led by prop Tyra Dymock, were much too difficult for Souths to handle, providing the Roosters backs with numerous opportunities.
The Roosters move on to play the winless Canberra Raiders at Woy Woy next Saturday.
Lisa Fiaola Cup (Women’s Under 17s)
The Central Coast Roosters Lisa Fiaola Cup team have broken numerous Club women’s records on their way to a crushing 84-6 win over the South Sydney Rabbitohs at Woy Woy. The 84 points scored, the 78 point winning margin, the 15 tries and the 12 goals by the team are the highest scored by a Roosters representative women’s team. Five eighth and captain Mia Vaotuua with five tries and hooker Meg McPhail’s 12 goals and 24 points are also Club records for Roosters women’s players.
Vaotuua has now scored ten tries in four 2025 games and she continues to be a dominate factor in this seasons’ competition.
The try scored by Souths was the first conceded by the Roosters this year as they surged to the competition lead with their record win.
The Roosters face the Canberra Raiders (one win, three losses) at Woy Woy next Saturday.
Laurie Daley Cup (Men’s Regional Under 18s)
The Central Coast Roosters Laurie Daley Cup team have pulled off a superb comeback to defeat the Northern Rivers Titans at Woy Woy. The Titans led 22-6 with 16 minutes remaining and looked headed for a comfortable win. However, the Roosters have run in four late tries to snatch a 26-22 victory that is likely to propel the team into this year’s semi finals.
Once again, halves Isaac Fotu-Moala and Brok Elliott were instrumental in the Roosters victory, whilst fullback Keenan Tufi had some nice moments on the day.
The Roosters complete the preliminary rounds of the competition on Saturday when they take on the Newcastle-Maitland Knights at Raymond Terrace on Saturday.
Andrew Johns Cup (Men’s Regional Under 16s)
The Central Coast Andrew Johns team has suffered their first loss in nearly two years, going down 22-12 to the Northern Rivers Titans at Woy Woy.
It was a disappointing performance from the back-to-back premiers who made too many errors and missed too many tackles.
However, with three wins already this season the Roosters are still well placed to play finals and defend their title.
In the final preliminary round of the competition the Roosters travel to Raymond Terrace on Saturday to take on the Newcastle-Maitland Knights.
