The Sydney Roosters were proud to welcome students from Gilgandra and Kincumber High School to training this week as part of the Boots for Brighter Futures initiative, delivered in partnership with Cultural Choice Association.
Cultural Choice Association is a charity dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people through programs that strengthen cultural connection and encourage self-expression through art.
Earlier this year, the Roosters sent 22 pairs of boots to students in the regional NSW community of Gilgandra, where Cultural Choice Association facilitated a three-day workshop focused on culture, mental wellbeing and storytelling through art. Each student created a unique design that reflected their own journey, identity and connection to community.
Students from Kincumber High School also joined the program this term, painting boots for members of the Roosters NRL squad and learning about the stories of the players they were designing for.
This week, the students travelled to Gosford to meet the Roosters players whose boots they had designed. They joined the Club for a traditional smoking ceremony before sharing lunch together, giving the young artists the opportunity to yarn with the players and explain the meaning behind their artwork.
The visit marked a special moment in the program, connecting the students with their sporting heroes and celebrating the stories that each pair of boots represents.
The Sydney Roosters are proud to continue supporting Cultural Choice Association through the Boots for Brighter Futures initiative, helping create meaningful experiences that celebrate culture, strengthen connection and leave a lasting impact on young people and the wider community.
