After the grind of the off-season, in the gym and out on the training paddock under the hot summer sun, the NRL season is just three weeks away.

After some major changes across the board at Roosters HQ, including some of the NRL and sports biggest names making their way to Bondi, the excitement levels are through the roof in anticipation for the year ahead.

And, it all starts with our NRL season opening blockbuster against the South Sydney Rabbitohs on March 7 at Allianz Stadium.

However, before we face-off against last years semi finalists, and our biggest rivals, we meet the Manly Sea Eagles this weekend (Feb 16) in Gosford and the Wests Tigers on February 23 in the opening Foundation Cup match of 2013 at Allianz Stadium.

A man who knows all about what it takes to win a premiership in the Tricolours is former skipper, and now assistant coach, Craig Fitzgibbon. The four-time Jack Gibson Medal winner will work alongside Jason Taylor and Paul Green this season, as assistants for new coach Trent Robinson, and spoke with Roosters.com.au this week about the importance of the final weeks before the season gets underway.

Its a massive few weeks ahead for all the players and it kicks off this weekend with 25 blokes getting the first chance to stake a claim for a spot in that 17 come March 7 against the Bunnies, Fitzgibbon said.

Its been a long pre-season and all of the boys have been putting in, but now is the time to transfer that hard work done over the summer months out on to the field.

With new names Michael Jennings, James Maloney, Michael Oldfield and Sam Moa all turning out for the first time this weekend, and a mix of youth and experience joining our newest recruits on the Bluetongue Stadium turf, Fitzgibbon knows how crucial strong performances will be.

Were all excited for the two upcoming trials in Gosford and at home at Allianz Stadium as they are a crucial component to our overall preparations.

And, although he might be in the coaches box these days, the man they call Fitzy cant help but be excited.

Were all just really excited to be honest and cant wait to begin.
