The Sydney Roosters had a mixed bag of results in Round 2 of the Junior Reps down in Wollongong on Saturday. The Harold Matthews have a stirring win against the much fancied Steelers and the SG Ball went down in a very brutal encounter.

The Sydney Roosters Harold Matthews got on the board with a cracking performance against the much bigger Illawarra Steelers. After a solid but nervous Round 1 loss to the Eels the boys looked much more comfortable and built their victory on one of the best defensive efforts from a Harold Matthews team in the clubs history. The young Roosters attacked the big Steelers forwards with a fast and effective defense that rattled the Steelers. Then with the ball they showed very good touches and scored some great rugby league tries. Alex Sama and Luke Delailoa led from the front with Cameron Mazzelli, Jake Prindiville and Brodie Vassallo consistently caused the Steelers all kinds of problems with great pace and footwork.

Scores: Sydney Roosters 20 (Te Ahu Matiu Baker, George Fakhr, Brodie Vassallo, Jake Prindiville tries. Cameron Mazzelli 2 goals). Illawarra 8.

The SG Ball was looking to put behind them a very unexpected poor start to the season in Round 1. The Steelers also showed very strong trial form also started the season with a loss, so it set the scene for a fierce encounter, and it didnt disappoint. The Sydney Roosters started very aggressively and took a the lead with a great try to Piki Rogers. For the next 65 minutes both teams shared the lead until a couple of late errors by the Roosters allowed the Steelers to get field position and score the match deciding try. Piki Rogers and Vincent Leuluai were great for the Roosters and Joseph Manu was good at the back.

Scores: Illawarra 20. Sydney Roosters 12 (Junior Wari, Piki Rogers tries. Travis Edwards 2 goals).

This week will see the young Roosters take on the Raiders. The Harold Matthews will be looking to put together back to back victories while it is now a must win game for the SG Ball to get their season started. Games will be played at Aubrey Keech Reserve, Hinchinbrook with the Harold Matthews kicking off at 1:00pm and the SG Ball starting at 2:30pm.
