A tough effort from our Holden Cup side saw the youngsters run out 26-18 winners over Newcastle in Wyong.

A Brilliant cut out pass from young English fullback Curtis Naughton set up Vaikeli to score out wide and put the Roosters in front early on.

The Tricolours were dominating the forward battle with Jayden Tavae leading the charge for the home side constantly stinging the opposition in both attack and defence.

After continually dominating the Tricolours extended the lead to ten after an unconventional chip and chase close.

A clever back line movement saw Jack Goodsell stroll over not long after, clearly benefitting from a huge off-season which saw him spend time with the NRL squad.

Thanks to a continual trickle of rain, both sides started to drop the ball frequently before the Knights finally crossed just after the half-time break to make it 16-4.

A second try to the Knights late in the third quarter put the Hunter side to within eight.

The comeback looked likely when a third try from a kick put the Knights to within two but the Tricolours showed great commitment, scoring a late try to seal the result.
