The Sydney Roosters went down to the West Tigers 22-18 in the Holden Cup.

Despite a brave late charge and dominating field position the young Roosters couldn't take advantage of a host of opportunities.

The Wests Tigers started the strongest scoring early on to establish a four nil lead but it wasn't long before the Tricolours hit back.

A powerful run from Vincent Leuluai saw the back rower charge through the line and take the lead for the home side.

Some brilliant defence from the visitors then set up a dominant back end as the Tigers ran in two tries down their right edge to gong to the break up by ten.

The Tricolours hit back just after the break through Jack Goodsell, the flying winger latching on to a clever pass from Milne to race over and touch down out wide.

A break in the middle of the field, then set up the Tigers next. The visitors flicked the ball out wide to touch down and further extend the lead.

The Roosters were granted a flicker of hope when Goodsell scored his second with an acrobatic catch and put down out wide but it wasn't enough despite a last minute try to five eighth Tyler Cornish.
