McGregor Claims 2022 KARI NRLW Player of the Year

After claiming the Dally M Medal just days prior, halfback Raecene McGregor has been awarded the 2022 Sydney Roosters KARI NRLW Player of the Year.

A late addition to the squad last season, McGregor proved to be a pivotal figure amongst the team in 2022, playing a major role in the side’s success throughout the regular season.

The diminutive halfback laid on a competition high 10 tries – double her nearest opponent – setting up a further five line breaks, forcing two line drop outs and averaging over 100 running metres.

With her playmaking ability - in particular, her pinpoint kicking game - McGregor was one of the key leaders amongst the Sydney Roosters in 2022, highlighted by her stellar performance in Round 3 at Allianz Stadium, setting up a remarkable four tries in the 34-6 victory.

It was easy to see why Roosters Members and supporters voted for Tufuga’s effort against the Dragons – not only did her try officially become the Roosters’ first at the brand-new Allianz Stadium, but it also kick-started a mighty comeback that saw the Tricolours claim a dominant win.

Trailing 6-nil early in the contest, momentum slowly built for the Red, White and Blue, which saw a Raecene McGregor kick go crossfield, finding the hands of Tufuga who calmly caught the ball to slam it down – and the rest, they say, is history.
