Very tough today out for youthful Roosters
NSW Cup
The Sydney Roosters NSW Cup team have gone down 54-0 to the Newtown Jets in their Round 12 clash at Gosford. With the NRL team missing seven first choice players and a number of other experienced NSW Cup players unavailable this weekend it was always going to be a tough day out for the Roosters.
The team fielded had an average age of just 21 with eight players still eligible to play Jersey Flegg Cup and three of those having played S.G. Ball Cup earlier this season. Debuts were given to 17 year old left entre Lui Lee and 18 year old interchange prop Itula Seve. Whilst the young players will benefit from the experience it was an afternoon that many will wish to forget. The Roosters completed 67% of sets and only had 45% possession, with 15 errors. They were required to make 73 more tackles than Newtown.
For the Roosters Tyler Moriaty, who played 30 minutes as hooker and 41 minutes at lock, topped the tackle count with 40.
The Roosters next play the Canberra Raiders next Sunday afternoon at Wentworth Park.
Jersey Flegg Cup (Men’s Under 21s)
The Sydney Roosters Jersey Flegg Cup team have gone down 30-18 to the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks at Gosford in their Round 12 clash. The Roosters brought in six players from their S.G. Ball Cup winning squad and early in the second half had opened up a 18-6 lead. First half tries to S.G. Ball captain Jaxson Allen and his Ball Cup team mate Peter Benjamin Uini gave the Roosters a 12-6 half time lead and Roosters lock Zack Visconti scored the Roosters third converted try in the 41st minute. However, the Sharks then found easy ground through the middle of the Roosters defence and ran in four converted tries in 18 minutes to wrap up the game.
