The Roosters NSW Cup team have impressed with a comprehensive victory over the Parramatta Eels, with some fine performances from many of the Roosters most promising rising stars.

NSW Cup

The 9th placed Sydney Roosters have posted back-to-back wins with a 50-12 victory over 12th placed Parramatta at Wentworth Park on Sunday, after the Roosters led 26-6 at half time.

The club went into the match missing Blake Steep (knee), Tom Rodwell (hamstring), Ben Johnson (knee) and Dietrich Roache (leg) with injury, whilst Benaiah Ioelu, Cody Ramsay, Taylor Losalu and Egan Butcher were on NRL duty.

It was the Roosters second win in succession, coinciding with the return to the side of first choice halves Toby Rodwell and Reece Foley. The Roosters scored nine tries to two, with six of the nine Roosters tries scored by 2026 S.G. Ball Cup (Under 19s) premiership winning players.

The Roosters began the match in scintillating fashion, racing to a 22-0 lead within 15 minutes, with 18-year-old Clovelly junior Brooklyn Heath, playing right centre, scoring three of the four tries, showing exceptional speed. When left winger Junior Pauga scored in the 30th minute the Roosters had opened up a 26-0 lead and were dominating in all facets of the game.

The Eels did score just before the half time break, but a try double to Roosters S.G. Ball Cup premiership captain, Darcy Smith, playing on the left edge, in the 44th and 60th minutes of the game ensured the Roosters would substantially improve their points differential. Tries to fullback Rex Bassi8ngthwaighte and captain Max McCathie late in the game allowed the Roosters to post 50 points for the first time this season.

The Roosters backs were simply too fast for the Eels and halfback Toby Rodwell was again instrumental in getting the team around the park. The Roosters forwards were dominant, giving the young backs plenty of room to move.

Despite that win the Roosters remain in 9th place on the competition table, ahead of their Round 20 clash with the 13th placed Melbourne Storm at Allianz Stadium next Friday. The match is a curtain raiser to the NRL clash between the Roosters and the Storm. When the two teams met in Round 13 the Storm thrashed the Roosters 60-6. The victory over Parramatta does, however, keep the Roosters finals hopes alive but it’s likely the Roosters will need to win five of their final six games to qualify.

Jersey Flegg Cup (Men’s Under 21s)

The 12th placed Sydney Roosters have posted their fifth win of the season with a narrow 32-26 defeat of the 7th placed Parramatta Eels at Wentworth Park on Sunday, after the Roosters led 26-0 at half time.

The Roosters were again missing a number of players with a significant injury list headed up by headed by Aholoka Toia, Lachlan Dooner, Lui Lee, Itula Seve, Zac Sarfati, Jackson Pennell, Jackson De Lisle and Enzo Griffier and players such as Toby Rodwell, Reece Foley, Jake Elliott, Darcy Smith, Kanaan Magele, Brooklyn Heath, Rex Bassingthwaighte, Charleston Te Rore and Jaxson Allen playing in higher grades.

The Roosters were first to score when halfback Carter Mareko and fullback Jackson Stewart combined to send winger E.J. Mahu-Delamere in the right corner in just the 2nd minute of the game. In the 9th minute Stewart scored one himself when he proved too strong for the Eels defence, running off a Mareko pass and Mahu-Delamere was in again in the 15th minute when Mareko sent the Kiwi winger on an uninterrupted run to the line, with a lovely overhead pass. With Mareko converting one of the three tries, the Roosters led 14-0.

E.J. Mahu-Delamere’s two tries brought the dual S.G. Ball Cup premiership winger’s season tally up to 8, from 7 games in 2026.

After scoring the first three tries down Parramatta’s left side, the Roosters found holes in their right side defence too and Lance Tovio scored in the 20th minute, through some ordinary defence, after a pass from Jackson Stewart. The Mareko conversion pushed the score out to 20-0.

The try of the game came in the 31st minute when two highly promising 18-year-olds combined to score the Roosters fifth try of the day. Halfback Carter Mareko took on the Eels line and slipped a ball away to a rampaging Eddy Cayless who raced 35 metres to score under the posts. The Mareko conversion pushed the score out to 26-0, a lead that the Roosters held to early in the second half.

Watching the second half you could be excused for thinking the players had changed jumpers. The Eels scored two early tries in the second half to reduce the Roosters lead to 26-10 and when Roosters right centre John-Paul Donevski was sent to the sin bin in the 60th minute, the Eels were right back in the game. With him off the field the Eels ran in two more tries and by the time he returned to the field the Roosters led by just 26-22. The Roosters were fumbling their way to a loss and the Eels were charging toward a great comeback victory.

However, the Roosters steadied and even though they never looked likely to score in the second half they did find a way in the 75th minute to cross the tryline and secure the win, with a converted try to prop Peter Benjamin Uini. A late Eels try wasn’t sufficient to cost the Roosters a win, with the home team prevailing 32-26.

With that win the Roosters rise to 11th place on the competition table, ahead of their Round 20 clash with the 10th placed Melbourne Storm at Wentworth Park next Sunday.

NSW Women’s Premiership

The 3rd placed Central Coast Roosters have continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 14-14 Round 5 draw with 9th placed Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks at Woolooware on Thursday, after the Roosters led 14-0 at half time.

The Roosters team featured NRLW squad members Mia Wood (right wing), Nikiah Campbell right edge), Talea Tonga (halfback), Tatum Bird (hooker) and Taneisha Gray (left edge) and development players Logan Fletcher (fullback) and Te Raukura Leafe (prop).

Mia Vaotuua and Anastasia Leatupue both missed a second successive game due to their participation in the Australian Secondary Rugby League Schoolgirls Championship. The side did welcome back hard running left centre Majayda Darcy (ribs) from injury but lost five eighth Aylah McCulloch (ankle) in the lead up to the game.

The Roosters dominated the first half with winger Sharni Waters crossing for her sixth try of the season in the left corner, after 6 minutes, before fullback Logan Fletcher scored out wide in the 14th minute. Neither try was converted. However, errors crept into the Roosters game for much of the second part of the first half but the Roosters defence was solid enough to ensure the Sharks would finish the half scoreless. Just before the break the barnstorming interchange prop Felila Fakalelu burst through the Sharks defence, close to the posts, to score her fifth try of the season and give the Roosters a very handy 14-0 lead at half time.

Early in the second half Sharks right centre Mele Ketuu got through some pretty feeble Roosters left side defence to score out wide and the Roosters lead was cut to 14-4. The Roosters second half performance was underwhelming, to say the least. The attack was very clunky with plenty of errors at both ends of the field and they conceded a number of penalties inside their own quarter, in particular.

It was inevitable, although it took them some time, that the Sharks would eventually get through the Roosters again, with the mountain of possession they had in the second half, and it was Sharks five eighth Koffi Brookfield that dived over to score with eight minutes left in the match to bring the Sharks right back into the match. The Roosters could barely complete a set and the errors kept piling up. In the very last set of the match, following another Roosters error, the Sharks scored again through      interchange forward Manawanui James, and this time Sharks halfback Ella Ropata was able to convert to level the scores at 14-14, the Roosters third draw in just five matches this season.

With that draw the Roosters drop to 4th place on the competition table, ahead of their Round 6 clash with the 8th placed Mounties at Bateau Bay next Saturday.

Ron Massey Cup

The 9th placed Glebe Dirty Reds have lost their 11th successive match of this 2026 season with a 32-28 loss to 7th placed Wentworthville at Wentworth Park on Sunday, after Glebe led 22-16 at half time.

Roosters N.S.W. Cup squad members Trey Peni (right wing), Emery Jolliffe (left wing), Will Malloy (left centre), Rhys Dakin (prop) and Michael Coleman (hooker) all suited up for Glebe, with Peni scoring two tries and Jolliffe one.

It is the fifth time in this eleven-match losing sequence that Glebe have led at half time. Unfortunately, the performances of the Dirty Reds in the second halves continue to cost the Club any chance of winning.

With that result Glebe remain in 9th place on the competition ladder, ahead of their Round 15 clash with 3rd placed Mounties at Wentworth Park next Sunday.

Sydney Shield

The 8th placed Glebe Dirty Reds have suffered their 9th loss of the season after going down 26-20 to the 3rd placed Wentworthville Magpies at Henson Park on Sunday, after Glebe led 16-4 at half time.

Sydney Roosters Jersey Flegg Cup squad members Micah Peaupepe-Perkins (fullback) and Ryder Williams (halfback) both turned out for Glebe.

With that result Glebe remain in 8th place on the competition ladder, ahead of their Round 15 clash with 2nd placed Mounties at Wentworth Park next Sunday.
