Trent Robinson to climb Island Peak for Mark Hughes Foundation

Sydney Roosters Head Coach Trent Robinson will travel to Nepal this October to climb Island Peak in an effort to raise awareness and funds for the Mark Hughes Foundation.

In 2019, Robinson joined 19 other climbers, including Mark Hughes himself, to climb Mount Kilimanjaro over nine days through trying conditions and high altitude, raising a total of $695,579

This year, the Tricolours mentor has set his sights on new heights.

The neighbouring peak of Mount Everest, Island Peak, otherwise known as Imja Tse, lies in the Khumbu Himalayan Range of Eastern Nepal. The climb is 6187 metres high, with the route encompassing cultural sites including Pangboche, Tengboche and Khumjung.

“It’s a challenging climb and I want to push myself to do well, but for me, this is about supporting something that’s greater than you, and I feel really fortunate that I can support Mark’s important work this way,” Robinson said.

Robinson walked from the Sydney Cricket Ground to the Sydney Opera House on Monday to help launch the NRL's annual Beanie for Brain Cancer Round and show his support for the Mark Hughes Foundation.

“The work that Mark has done, and the struggle and fight he’s had with brain cancer, and the on-going fight for him – and winning that fight and creating The Mark Hughes Foundation – it shows what support and progress can do to help a great cause.”

The announcement of Robinson’s climb correlates with the NRL’s seventh annual Beanie for Brain Cancer Round, with players, coaches, Clubs and fans uniting to support an important cause.

Funds raised from the trek will enable the Mark Hughes Foundation to continue their support of patients, their families and fund vital research into brain cancer.
