Junior Weekend Results | 18th April, 2026

The Roosters have qualified teams in the preliminary finals in all four junior representative competitions after the three Roosters teams in action this weekend all won their sudden death semi-finals.

S.G. Ball Cup (Men’s Under 19s)

The Sydney Roosters, who finished 3rd on the competition ladder at the conclusion of the regular season, with seven wins and one loss, had the weekend off after defeating the 2nd placed Melbourne Storm 56-6 in week one of the finals.

They will play minor premiers South Sydney in a preliminary final at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday, with a kick off at 3.30 pm.

The Central Coast Roosters season is over. The team, coached by Adam McEwan, finished in 17th place on the competition table, with one win and seven losses.

Harold Matthews Cup (Men’s Under 17s)

The Sydney Roosters, who finished 6th on the competition ladder at the conclusion of the regular season, with five wins and three losses, have beaten 3rd placed Penrith 22-14 in Saturday’s semi-final at Blacktown to advance to a Preliminary Final next weekend with 4th placed Illawarra Steelers.

The Roosters opened the scoring in the first minute of the game, through a Charlie Webb penalty goal, before Panthers’ giant prop Cordell Arama stormed through the Roosters defence in the 6th minute to give the Panthers a 4-2 lead.

After a penalty got the Roosters to half way, a superb long cut out pass from halfback Charlie Webb to right winger Levi Scarlett, on the final tackle of the ensuring set, saw Scarlett score in the right corner and the Roosters regained the lead 6-4.

The Roosters extended the lead to 16-4 with tries to hooker Caleb Zahra in the 19th minute, his 6th of the season, and a second try to Levi Scalett in the very next set, after fullback Harper Boothroyd sent Scarlett on a 40-metre dash along the right sideline to the tryline.

In the final set of the first half Penrith left centre Saumani Leatupue scored in the corner to bring the Panthers right back into the contest, with the Roosters going to the break, leading 16-8. The first try scorer of the second half was always going to be critical to the result and once again it was halfback Charlie Webb who stepped up, beating four defenders to the line, to score under the posts. It was Webb’s 7th try of the year and again showed his immense talent. The 22-8 lead was reduced to 22-14 when Panthers’ right edge forward Tyler Scibberas-Hemana pounced on a grubber kick in the Roosters in-goal with 13 minutes remaining and the match was very much in the balance. However, despite the Panthers having a number of attacking opportunities in those final 13 minutes, the Roosters defence was resolute and a Preliminary Final appearance was secured.

It was a terrific performance by the Roosters, who were soundly beaten 32-10 by the Panthers at home earlier in the season, but have now won their last four matches. The Roosters played next weekend’s Preliminary Final opponent, Illawarra, earlier in the season, beating them 22-14. It was the Steelers only loss of the season. The Preliminary Final will be played at Leichhardt Oval on Saturday, with a 1.30 pm kick off.

The Central Coast Roosters season is over. The team, coached by Ryan Southam, finished in 17th place on the competition table, with one win and seven losses.

Tarsha Gale Cup (Women’s Under 19s)

Minor Premiers the Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy, who finished the regular season with seven wins and one loss, have beaten 5th placed Penrith 28-16 in Saturday’s semi-final at Blacktown to advance to a Preliminary Final next weekend with 2nd placed Parramatta Eels.

The Roosters, missing Tyra Dymock (suspended), Lahni Moore (collarbone) and Mahlie Cashin (knee), raced to a 16-0 half time lead, with tries to prop Felila Fakalelu (5th try of the season), right centre Logan Fletcher (7th try of the season) and left winger Jayda Durham (8th try of the season).

The Panthers then crossed twice early in the second half and with 20 minutes remaining the Roosters lead was just six, at 16-10. Prop Te Raukura Leafe’s try under the posts, 10 minutes from full time, gave the Roosters some breathing space but a Panthers converted try soon after again meant a nervous last five minutes for Roosters supporters, with the minor premiers leading just 22-16.

With three minutes remaining 2025 Australian Schoolgirl representative Anastasia Leatupue, playing at lock, burst through the Panthers defensive line, 60 metres from the Panthers line, before finding five eighth Talea Tonga in support, who raced 25 metres to score under the posts, to secure victory.

The win qualified the Roosters for a 5th preliminary final appearance in the past six seasons, where they’ll again face last season’s grand final opponent, Parramatta. The teams met most recently in late March with the Eels winning 30-6. The Preliminary Final will be played at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday, with an 11.30 am kick off.

Lisa Fiaola Cup (Women’s Under 17s)

The Central Coast Roosters, who finished 4th on the competition ladder at the conclusion of the regular season, with six wins and two losses, have beaten 8th placed Wests Tigers 14-4 in Saturday’s semi-final at Blacktown to advance to a Preliminary Final next weekend with 2nd placed Newcastle Knights.

The Roosters went into the match missing left winger Sienna Kennedy-Wilkie (concussion) and prop Aaliyah Temete, from the starting side that played Parramatta in their Week One final. In a very scrappy affair, the Roosters came up with a number of desperate defensive plays to hold out the Tigers time and time again, restricting them to just the one try, to their impressive lock forward Olivia Large, late in the first half.

The Roosters led 8-0 inside the first 20 minutes, with tries to left centre Malia Moses-Kincaid in the 10th minute, after lock Lara Murray’s bomb was badly misjudged by the Tigers backs, and hooker Ivy Hagan in the 19th minute, from a dash 10 metres from the Tigers line.

The Roosters 8-4 lead, after the Tigers lone try in the 25th minute, was retained for over 25 minutes, with both sides struggling to put together a lot of dangerous attacking plays. Eventually, inside the final 10 minutes, Roosters left edge forward Mia-Cheri Lokeni beat multiple defenders to the line, after a strong run from fullback and captain Stella Hall, left her just metres short of the Tigers line, and the Roosters were the victors 14-4 and through to another Preliminary Final.

The Roosters Preliminary Final opponents, the Newcastle Knights, have gone through the season undefeated, and they defeated the Roosters 36-14 in late February. The Knights won their week One finals clash with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 44-10, so the Roosters are going to need to be at their very best if they are to qualify for a second successive grand final.

The Preliminary Final will be played at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday, with a 1.00 pm kick off.
