The Sydney Roosters S.G. Ball Cup team have done it again, with back-to-back comeback grand finals wins to secure the Club’s 6th title in the competition.
S.G. Ball Cup (Men’s Under 19s)
The Sydney Roosters, who finished 3rd on the competition ladder at the conclusion of the regular season, with seven wins and one loss, have beaten 7th placed Newcastle Knights 28-24 in Saturday’s Grand Final, after the Knights led 24-6 after 29 minutes and 24-10 at half time.
The Roosters went into the match without halfback Carter Mareko, who was serving the final game of a two-match suspension, 2025 premiership winning left centre Lui Lee (hamstring) and centre Jeziah Papa (knee).
It is the second straight premiership for the Club, its coach Boyd Cordner (in just his second year as Coach), captain Darcy Smith and players Itula Seve, E.J. Mahu-Delamere, James Finegan, Eddy Cayless, and Brooklyn Heath. Injuries prevented Rex Bassingthwaighte (2025) and Lui Lee (2026) from joining that list, but both won one title. It is also the sixth premiership for the Roosters in this competition.
Last season the Roosters also performed an extraordinary comeback to win the Grand Final, after being behind 26-18 to Parramatta with 90 seconds to play, before going on to win in extra time 33-26.

Fullback Rex Bassingthwaighte was a deserved Player of the Match, whilst halfback Carter Mareko, who missed the Decider, was named by the NSWRL as Player of the Season. Only last season Mareko was named as Harold Matthews Cup Player of the Season. An extraordinary achievement to capture these awards in back-to-back seasons.
The Roosters may not be finished yet challenging for titles in this grade. Grand Final winners Bastion Armstrong (right centre), Joshua Fesolai (left wing), Zaylen Ekapati (fill-in half back, normally a fullback), Charleston Te Rore (prop), Caleb Fesolai (bench middle), Copper Gibbs (bench forward), and Agapetos Lote-Felo (bench middle) plus Nathan Lopamaua (18th man) and Carter Mareko and Jeziah Papa, who were unavailable for the grand final, are all eligible to play S.G. Ball Cup again next season, along with a number of others from the wider Sydney Roosters 2026 S.G. Ball Cup squad.
The Central Coast Roosters season is over. The team, coached by Adam McEwan, finished in 17th place on the competition table, with one win and seven losses.
Harold Matthews Cup (Men’s Under 17s)
The Sydney Roosters, who finished 6th on the competition ladder at the conclusion of the regular season, with five wins and three losses, and won three sudden death finals matches to make the Grand Final, have been beaten 22-0 by minor premiers the Newcastle Knights in Saturday’s Decider, the first Grand Final appearance in this competition for the Roosters. The Knights led 10-0 at half time.
The Roosters went into the match without Kiwi prop Seu Fidow, who suffered a syndesmosis injury in the preliminary final.
It was the first season that Paul Momirovski has coached the team and it was a magnificent achievement by him and his team to qualify for the Grand Final, the first Roosters team ever to do so.
However, on Grand Final day the Knights were much too good. After going through the regular season undefeated the Knights suffered a shock loss to the Illawarra Steelers in the first week of the finals but rallied again to beat Parramatta, South Sydney and finally the Sydney Roosters in the final series.
The Roosters tries hard throughout but were outclassed. Knights edge forward Kade McKay was named Player of the Match, whilst South Sydney halfback Payton Tarau was awarded Player of the Season.
With a large number of the Roosters squad too old to play Harold Matthews Cup next season, the squad is likely to look quite different in 2027.
The Central Coast Roosters season is over. The team, coached by Ryan Southam, finished in 17th place on the competition table, with one win and seven losses.
Tarsha Gale Cup (Women’s Under 19s)
The Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy team’s season is over. The team, coached by Keeley Nizza, finished the regular season as minor premiers with seven wins and one loss. However, they narrowly lost to 4th placed Cronulla-Sutherland in Week One of the finals, before beating 5th placed Penrith in Week Two and then being comprehensively beaten by defending premiers Parramatta Eels in last Sunday’s Preliminary Final, to bow for 2026.
The competition was won by the Parramatta Eels who beat the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 20-6 in Saturday’s Grand Final, after the Sharks led 6-4 at half time.
Freedom Crichton Ropati, the Parramatta right side winger, was named Player of the Match, whilst their lock forward and captain Khyliah Gray was awarded Player of the Season.
Lisa Fiaola Cup (Women’s Under 17s)
The Central Coast Roosters, who finished 4th on the competition ladder at the conclusion of the regular season, with six wins and two losses, have been beaten 40-4 by 3rd placed Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in Saturday’s Grand Final, after the Bulldogs led 12-0 at half time.
It is the second successive grand final defeat for the Roosters, but a great achievement from Coach Jayme Fressard, in her second season as coach, to qualify the team for back-to-back grand finals.
The Bulldogs were far too good, running in eight tries, with left winger Meleane Hala scoring there of the eight. She also kicked four goals for a personal tally of 20 points.
The Roosters lone try came late in the game to right winger Silia Tuitufu, after a smart backline move. It was her 12th try of the season, the most of any Rooster.
Bulldogs interchange hooker Jada Breeze Brown, who came into the match after just eight minutes, was crowned Player of the match, whilst our own Kewa Kahuroa was named Player of the Season by the NSWRL. The highly talent prop forward has a big future in front of her and we may, one day, hopefully see her in the NRLW if she continues on her current trajectory.
Laurie Daley Cup (Men’s Under 18s)
The Central Coast Roosters season is over. The team, coached by Damian Hargreaves, finished in 3rd place on the northern conference competition table, with two wins, two losses and a draw.
The competition was won this season by Macarthur Wests Tigers who beat the Northern Rivers Tigers 40-22 in the Grand Final.
Andrew Johns Cup (Men’s Under 16s)
The Central Coast Roosters season is over. The team, coached by Toby Elliott, finished in 3rd place on the northern conference competition table, with two wins and two losses.
The competition was won this season by Macarthur Wests Tigers who beat the Newcastle-Maitland Region Knights 26-16 in the Grand Final.
